In Ayurveda the doctor, patient , attendant and drugs are said to be the four legs of a treatment. Each one of them should be of good qualities and function to their best of capacity for a treatment to become successful.

Important qualities of an Ideal patient

In Ayurveda the doctor, patient , attendant and drugs are said to be the four legs of a treatment. Each one of them should be of good qualities and function to their best of capacity for a treatment to become successful.

The ideal patient should possess the following qualities

“ आढ्यो रोगी भिषग वश्यो ज्ञापकः स्तववानपि ”

A rogi should be

Adhya – The patient should have the means to go for a treatment, this can mean the money or the time that a person can spend for his or her recovery from any ailment.

Bhishagvashyo- The patient should be obedient to the physician.

Gyapaka- Should have good memory and common sense, he or should be able to recollect and explain all the symptoms in detail and follow the instructions given by the physician.

Satvavan- he should have the will power to withstand the strain of the therapies, and stick the regimens directed by the physician.

A patient who has all the capabilities will recover faster from the ailments affecting him or her.
